This illustration is dedicated to Minerva Hamilton Hoyt who was a wealthy lady of high society who, after the death of her son at an early age and also after her husband’s death, went to seek solace and inspiration in the wild desert. She found both and became a tireless explorer and defender of the deserts of the southwestern of the United States and parts of Mexico. After some time, she became the first great protector of the desert and she played a crucial role in the appreciation and protection of these landscapes and their botany such as cacti. After I discoverd her history, I imagined her on one of her long rides to explore the terrain, and that’s the way I drawn her.
