The Quetzal, a stunning and vibrantly colored tropical bird, stands as one of the most significant symbols in Mesoamerican culture, highly revered by both the Mayan and Aztec tribes. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the Quetzal also embodies the concept of freedom. According to local tradition, it was believed in ancient times that the Quetzal would choose to die of hunger rather than live in captivity, drawing a poignant parallel to the challenges faced by the Mayan culture during the European invasions, where they experienced the loss of their traditions, lands, and freedom.

In a nostalgic reflection reminiscent of old movies, I like to envision the idea that sophisticated colonial nomadic women from Europe were attuned enough to explore and connect with the exquisite nature and creatures of Central America. This illustration serves as a romantic snapshot capturing my dream of an old tropical movie.

– Prints larger than 30x40cm, are shipped in a resistant cardboard tube, wrapped in protective tissue paper.
