Quetzal Goddess Limited Edition Print

The Quetzal, a beautiful tropical colorful bird, and one of the most important symbols of Mesoamerica, was highly appreciated by the Mayan and Aztec tribes. Also representing the concept of freedom, the local tradition considers that in ancient times, it was believed that the Quetzal preferred to die of hunger, rather than to live as a prisoner; showing us a clear parallelism to the Mayan culture suffering the European invasions loosing their traditions, lands and freedom. Anyway, like in the old movies, I like to dream about the idea that elegant colonial nomad women coming from Europe, were sensitive enough to explore and connect with the beautiful nature and creatures of Central America. This illustration is like a romantic capture of my old tropical movie dream.
