The ancient Minoan civilization of the island of Crete, has several representations of a stylized palm tree with two phoenixes on its sides. The palm tree is also represented behind the throne of the main Minoan goddess in the palace of Knossos, and it is believed that the palm tree used to appear as a possible incarnation of the goddess. The phoenixes are her guardians who protect her at the gates between heaven and earth.
