The tradition and folklore of Canarian women in the fields was essential for life in the Canary Islands. On the island of Gran Canaria, rural women were called Maúras or even Magas (Magician) due to their great importance in the field and food treaty as also artesanal work for daily life use. Unfortunately, the tradition of women in the countryside has not always been valued as it deserves, and some customs have been lost, but currently the Canary Islands try to recover these feminine traditions as much as possible. Tropia Art wants to be part of this recovery of female folklore in general and add value through artwork. The traditional clothing of Gran Canaria, in their female version, are famous for their color where white and red or yellow predominate. The skirt use to be striped, accompanied by an embroidered apron. In addition, it has a piece similar to the corsets of other times. On the head, a long scarf that reaches the waist accompanied by the typical female puppy. Canarian women were and some still are true ceramic artists. Canarian pottery is usually mostly made out of clay, and has its ancient origins from the aboriginal civilizations of the island. Luckily the type of ceramic has been maintained since then. The rooster is one of the creatures that is revered in many cultures around the world as it is also highly appreciated in the rural life of the Canary Islands. It represents confidence, good luck, and protection.
