Serket (also known as Serqet, Selkis, and Selket) is the Egyptian goddess of protection associated with the scorpion. She was adored widely in Lower Egypt as the great Mother Goddess. Serket was shown as a scorpion or as a woman with a scorpion on her head. A golden statue of the goddess was discovered in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt, at the canopic chest or shrine of the tomb of the pharaoh Tutankhamun protecting his soul and treasures.
