In ancient Roman mythology, Diana is the goddess of hunting, nature and wild life. In later times she was also associated with the moon whose cycles were believed to parallel the menstrual cycle, its why Diana is a strong symbol of the free wild woman image. Trees, in this illustration specifically the palm tree as it is also a symbol of ancient times, are sacred to her. She is the daughter of Jupiter and the Titan Latona (or Leto). In Greek mythology, Diana is called Artemis. Normally Diana is accompanied by deer as her guardians, but in this reinterpretation I have chosen cheetahs. Cheetah symbolizes speed, intervals, and groundedness and they are the most grounded of all cats. Because of their calm they are good guardians symbolizing at the same time the freedom of wildlife.
