The hand is a symbol of expression, communication and contact. In our hands destinations are inscribed, life lines marked on the skin guide our path and the future is stored in them. In artwork, the hand speaks, and one can perceive the tremendous power of the hand to convey human emotions. The hands are the organs of the body which, except for the face, have been used most often in the various art forms to express feelings. In ancient cultures, the Hand (Khamsa), particularly the open right hand, is a sign of protection that also represents blessings, power and strength, and is seen as potent in deflecting the evil eye. In addition to this, the illustration wants to show the union of two sacred symbols such as the hand and being caressed by a snake. Serpents represent fertility or a creative life force. As snakes shed their skin through sloughing and in this illustration the snake is in direct contact with the human skin, they are symbols of rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing.
